A Story inspired by curiosity, creativity and the exciting discovery that nature and photography could become one.

Every creative journey is shaped by moments of exploration, and Birds of Paradise represents one of the most important in the House of Norris Archive.

As only the second design I created for House of Norris, this Story became an opportunity to experiment with new ways of bringing nature to life. Alongside my original hand-drawn illustrations, I incorporated my own photography of tropical flowers and foliage, blending the two disciplines together to create a richly layered composition that celebrates the vibrant beauty of the natural world.

The process taught me something invaluable. While I loved exploring the relationship between photography and illustration, it also helped me discover where my true passion lay. From that moment on, I chose to dedicate my work to fully hand-drawn artwork, allowing illustration to become the unmistakable signature of House of Norris.

Every feather, botanical detail and tropical flourish within Birds of Paradise reflects that exciting period of discovery. It captures the energy of an artist exploring new creative possibilities while beginning to define a style that would continue to evolve through every Chapter that followed.

As part of Chapter One – The Great Outdoors, Birds of Paradise celebrates the extraordinary colours, textures and vitality of tropical nature. It is a joyful reminder that creativity often grows through experimentation, and that every step along the journey helps shape the artist we become.

Today, Birds of Paradise remains one of the most loved Stories in the House of Norris Archive. Not only because of its vibrant design, but because it represents a pivotal moment in my creative journey—a reminder that sometimes the paths we choose not to follow are just as important as the ones that define us.
